Welcome to Impact Music 4 Kids!
This site provides downloadable sheet music and other resources to help kids learn positive values through fun, original music. These songs, written by Carrie M. Wrigley, LCSW, were originally created in a school setting, as part of a Character Education curriculum. They are now being made available to the general public, in hopes that these entertaining, happy songs can delight and inspire children everywhere. For school, home, and community use; all music appropriate for general audiences.
Uses of Character Education Music
How can you put to use the music on this site? In plenty of ways!
All of the music on this site was first created for practical applications in real settings, including:
1) Fostering Creativity and Musicianship in Children: All of the songs on the site have been used as concert materials for a children's choir. Besides singing the songs, children have danced to them, planned skits around them, and accompanied them with percussion and other musical instruments. They have been sung by soloists and small groups, as well as by a full choir. Using their talents to express positive ideas provides multiple benefits to children. (See Scripts for ideas on how to use these ideas in performance.)
Impact of Positive Music in Education
Music has been used for generations to teach children useful concepts. What child ever learned the alphabet without the cheerful assistence of the "ABC song?" Music is helpful in helping children memorize facts, learn curriculum, develop social skills, build self confidence, and create positive memories. Schools often access the power of music to assist in teaching core academic curriculum, understanding that anything is easier to learn and remember when it is set to music.
Music can be equally powerful in teaching character education concepts in a school setting, and also in contributing to a positive, happy, respectful learning environment for students and staff alike. As students learn through music, values such as responsibility, caring, and inclusion can become well-integrated parts of the culture of a school.
Impact of Positive Music in the Home
Throughout human history, music has played an important part in creating a sense of caring, comfort, and fun at home. Generations of mothers and fathers have sung their children to sleep with soothing lullabyes. They have fostered emotional connections and delight with fun activity songs such as "Eensy Weensy Spider" and "The Wheels on the Bus." They have often nurtured discipline and intelligence by providing music lessons and instruments for their children to practice at home. Talents blossom, self-expression flourishes, and children gain another means of connecting with the world, and with others around them, as children engage actively in the ongoing process of learning and performing music.
Children who regularly participate in creating music, rather than just listening to it, develop increased creativity, social skills, technical ability, personal confidence, and physical coordination. In addition, the music they learn and memorize becomes part of them, with the impact lasting for years or even decades.
